Game of Thrones is Being Considered by Paradox Interactive

The CEO of Paradox Interactive, the maker of historical strategy games like the Crusader Kings series, Hearts of Iron series, and Europa Universalis series, has talked about wanting to acquire the Game of Thrones license.

The company is definitely one of the only developers out there capable of creating a character-driven strategy game, as they’ve proven time and time again. 

The only problem with developing a Game of Thrones title based on HBO’s license of the franchise would mean giving up creative control of the game’s development to outside parties—which is a problem the company’s CEO Fredrik Wester is currently thinking about how to tackle.

Speaking at the recent ParadoxCon, Wester said the following (via PC Gamer):

“The reason we haven’t approached HBO is that I’m still on the fence because I’m not sure it’s the right route for us to take,” he said.

“It would make a great franchise for us, it’s just that we just need to get over that inner feeling that it’s not the right thing to do. It’s a lot about creative control.”

Wester further revealed that he has been in contact with HBO ever since Game of Thrones was modded into Crusader Kings 2, stating that the broadcaster is aware of the mod but has not taken any steps to shutting it down.
