This year’s Call of Duty will is in development at Treyarch, the makers of Call of Duty: Black Ops and its sequel, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Best known for their Cold War-era storytelling that intertwined past to present, Treyarch has been confirmed to develop Call of Duty’s 2015 installment by Activision during an investor’s call today (IGN).
2013’s Black Ops 2 was their last effort before the series transitioned to a three-year development cycle with the addition to Sledgehammer Games, the makers of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
It is unlikely that we will be given any information about this year’s Call of Duty until at least May, especially if previous installments—many of which were announced in the middle of the year—are anything to go by.
Only time will tell if the game is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 or something else entirely. It also remains to be seen whether the game will cater entirely to the current gen and forego release on last-gen platforms like the PS3 and Xbox 360.
