During E3, Nintendo announced a new installment in its Lemmings-like Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. During this morning's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed the finalized name, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars, and that it would be heading to both Wii U and 3DS via eShop.
Oh, and this will be the first Nintendo-published title to have cross-buy functionality. Say what?
Yes, I kind of missed that when I first heard about the game earlier today. When I looked back, sure enough, there was the news! Buy the game on either Wii U or 3DS, get the other version absolutely free — just like Sony, finally! Hopefully, cross-buy will appear in all future eShop dual releases.
So, what's new about this sequel? As in previous installments, there's a level creator, and you can share you creations online. This time, all sharing will be done through Miiverse, and players can reward the best creations by tipping stars to the designers. You earn stars in normal play by beating levels with a high enough score, then you use those stars to buy additional assets in the level creator. By tipping stars to the best designers, you'll give them the currency needed to expand their creativity even further.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars arrives on Wii U and 3DS on March 5.
