Damned Nation Reborn Kickstarter Gives Near-Lost FPS/Tower Defense Hybrid A Second Chance

January 12, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

This game hit a serious roadblock that could have almost killed it off. Now, it’s gone to Kickstarter for that second chance.

Sinister Games has gone to Kickstarter to help ensure their pet project comes to fruition no matter what the setbacks. Introducing Damned Nation Reborn.

We know what you’re asking. Why is the game named reborn if its new? The answer is, it’s not entirely new. Damned Nation was already well in production starting June 6, 2013, and easily raised high votes in Steam Greenlight after a week. In a month, they released the pre-alpha, getting a lot of YouTubers playing and raving.

And then, after a few months of work, the unthinkable happened. They lost all their progress when they updated the engine. As a result, they had to rebuild the game from the ground up. Now, with the hopes they can raise the £ 20,000 base goal, they intend to expand the scope of the original game design.

The game itself is a hybrid FPS / tower defense set in a post apocalyptic open-world. Much like The Last Of Us, the world is occupied by zombie-like walkers, with deadly instincts but limited senses.

Shooting is conventional, with a cover system based on limiting movement and visibility. You will be doing a lot of skulking in the tall grasses, but unlike other games, Damned Nation is very arcadey, so you’ll only be hiding long enough to get walkers in your crosshairs.

You can set up turrets anytime you want, and reflecting that arcade feel, they deploy immediately. This makes them useful for when a swarm of walkers go after you, and you will also be using those turrets to help protect buildings and other structures.

You can learn more about the game and help fund it here. Watch several teaser trailers for the game below.
