Into the Stars, yet Another Crowdfunded Open-World Space Sim

January 5, 2015 by Tony Ponce

Brought to you by two former DICE lead developers.

Yeah, I know, Star Citizen made about a bazillion dollars via crowdfunding. Since then, a bunch of campaigns for similar open-world space sims have popped up, hoping to grab even a sliver of that Star Citizen pie but usually failing. The most recent case was Transverse, which was wrought with problems and canceled with a week left in the campaign. Who's next to test their luck?

It's Into the Stars by Fugitive Games, comprised of gentlemen who have worked on such titles as Battlefield, Lost Planet, and Shadows of the Damned. The Windows / OS X-bound Into the Stars runs on Unreal Engine 4 and… well… you know the drill with these types of games by now. But hey! Jack Wall, composer for the Mass Effect, is on music duty, so that might interest you!

The Kickstarter has a base goal of $85,000, which seems a bit low for a game of this scope, but at least the team is keeping its expectations in check. We'll see how these boys do.
