World of Tanks Adds 8-bit Graphics with Winter Showdown Mode

December 30, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Update also adds new vehicles, new ammo types, a new map, and more.

World of Tanks is getting a new mode which will turn the hugely popular game into an 8-bit version of itself.

Winter Showdown comes with 8-bit graphics, three new vehicles, a new map, and the option to play in platoons of five with matches where two sets of platoons compete against each other. There will also be an original battle arena added with the mode, and a new medal for "Operation Winter."

The new mode also adds special ammo which can be used to repair allied tanks and the ability to smash through the game's maze-like walls.

Winter Showdown will launch first in South Korea on January 15th before arriving in North America, Europe, and the rest of Asia on January 26th.
