City Interactive Games have revealed that they are working on Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3. The game is set for release on 2016, presumably on eight generation platforms.
The Sniper: Ghost Warrior games are the lesser of CI's Sniper franchises, compared to the more prominent Sniper: Elite games. Whereas the Sniper: Elite games can often blend together tactical, FPS, and third person stealth elements to decent games, the Ghost Warrior series is full first person perspective, providing limited appeal. Both Ghost Warrior games have also not fared well in the hands of reviewers.
However, the games do have some interesting elements that look really good on paper. A big deal of the game involves staking out targets stealthily, and the other half utilizes a realistic bullet physics system. You need to account for elements like wind, gravity, and flight time to plan out bullet trajectories.
The problems with the games have been more due to unbalanced AI and unrelated bugs than any of these systems themselves, so really, the Ghost Warrior franchise has a bit of unrealized potential. Whether CI Games can realize that potential with the power of eight generation consoles remains to be seen, but it is certainly worth taking notice.
