Batman: Arkham Knight Gets Prequel Comic, Starting February 2015

December 14, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The comic sets the stage for the video game, and is penned by veteran DC writer/editor Peter J. Tomasi.

DC Comics has revealed that they will be releasing a Batman: Arkham Knight comic in February 2015.

The comic is a prequel to the upcoming video game, and will be written by Peter J. Tomasi, with art by Art Thibert and Viktor Bogdanovic. Cover art duties go to Dan Panosian, and the first issue will get two variant covers, one from Gary Frank, and the other using art from Rocksteady's game itself.

The story is set just prior to the events of the videogame. The Joker is dead, and Arkham City is closed. Bruce is still recovering from his injuries, and questioning if Batman is still needed. Around the time he considers retirement, however, is the time Arkham Knight strikes, and Bruce is forced to put on the cowl again.

Peter Tomasi is a veteran writer and editor for DC Comics. His most high profile writing work was the Brightest Day crossover storyline with Geoff Johns, but he actually started out as an editor in 1993, working on not only Batman, but JSA, Green Lantern, and others. His writing work for Batman started with a 14 issue tenure for Nightwing. Later, he would end up writing Dick Grayson again, now Batman to Damian Wayne's Robin, as he took control over the Batman and Robin series that Grant Morrison started.

The upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight comic is exciting not only because of its connection to the video game, but because it has a writer well versed in Batman lore. Who knows, Tomasi's work writing Dick Grayson could even be relevant here.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be released on June 2, 2015 on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
