Metroid-esque Xeodrifter Hits 3DS on December 11

December 4, 2014 by Tony Ponce

With Xeodrifter done, Renegade Kid will finally finish work on Treasurenauts.

A few months ago, Mutant Mudds developer Renegade Kid put its co-op focused Treasurenauts on temporary hold in order to whip up a Metroidvania called Xeodrifter. Director Jools Watsham took to Twitter earlier today to announce that the game has an official launch date and price: December 11 on 3DS eShop for $9.99.

Just as in Metroid, Xeodrifter will allow you to explore alien worlds, acquire items to open up new areas, and break open walls to find secret goodies. And just as in Mutant Mudds, you'll be able to jump between the foreground and background, opening up some clever navigation challenges that require you to switch between the two rapidly.

Watsham had previously explained that Xeodrifter was an itch of sorts that he had to scratch before he could focus on anything else. Now that it's ready for prime time, it's back to Treasurenauts the team goes.
