Blizzard Trademarks “Mists of Pandaria”

August 3, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

Blizzard has trademarked Mists of Pandaria, which appears to be a new expansion for World of Warcraft.

Blizzard has filed a trademark for the name “Mists of Pandaria,” which alludes to the foreign lands inhabited by the Pandaren race in the World of Warcraft.

The Pandaren made their first appearance in Warcraft 3 as a new mercenary hero character, and were subsequently given a number of cameos in World of Warcraft.

Blizzard had previously refused to implement Pandaren in the game in any full form, for fear of offending the Chinese government, but that should no longer be an issue for the game is no longer available in the Chinese market unless imported, so there’s no longer any reason why they can’t be implemented.

MMO-Champion notes that Blizzard uses the international codes 009 and 041 to register their online games, of which Mists of Pandaria is listed, which rules out the possibility of it being a book or some other material.
