Sunset Overdrive: Play the Full Game for Free

November 21, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Only for 24 hours, though…

Sunset Overdrive is an interesting game, as it marks Insomniac Games' first foray away from the Sony's Playstation in some years. While their departure from Sony's ranks means less Ratchet and Clank, I think we can all agree when I say that Insomniac Games was probably tired of their furry little friend and his robotic companion. That's not to say that they won't return to development on the series, but even now, they're probably having to consult with Sony for the production of the Ratchet and Clank movie. Anyone would want some time away from the series, right?

Sunset Overdrive proves that Insomniac Games is a versatile development company. The game received a huge number of positive reviews, and while it might have missed the mark of perfection, it certainly comes as a fun introduction to the Xbox One. It's action-packed, and if you haven't seen the game already, quite the spectacle. I wasn't sure what to say when I first got the opportunity to play it.

Microsoft and Insomniac Games are teaming up to bring you the title free for 24 hours, a post on Major Nelson's blog reveals.

Beginning Saturday, November 22nd at 12.01 Eastern Time, Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One will get to play Sunset Overdrive for free for 24 hours. This is the full game; players will earn achievements and be able to save how far they progress during that 24 hour span. If you decide to purchase the game at a later point, you will be able to start again right where you left off.

For those of you who choose to opt-in for this offering, be prepared for a pretty wild ride. There's also a really solid chance that if you sit down and marathon the game, you'll be able to complete it without ever having to purchase it. If you're really dedicated, maybe there's even a chance you can get all of the achievements. Though, completing some of those gold challenges can be quite the cumbersome task. You'll have to be a really swell gamer to make that happen.
