Batman: Arkham Knight Won’t Feature Cooperative Play

November 20, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Batman goes it alone.

Batman: Arkham Knight will look to continue developer Rocksteady Studios' long line of development fidelity regarding licensed games. There are very few licensed game franchises that are able to achieve what Batman has done, as a lot of these games are ignored by critics before they've even been released.

Batman: Arkham Knight recently got delayed for about seven months, which pushes the game back into 2015. We won't get the opportunity to play as our favorite caped crusader until June 2, 2015. Yes, that's far away, but at least there's a concrete release date to look forward to; many games don't even afford us that luxury.

At any rate, gamers are up in arms because Rocksteady Studios claims that this delay is simply to 'polish the game' and there are still no plans for the implementation of cooperative play. Fans are wondering why there is such a long delay if a huge feature like coop will be missing from the overarching game experience. Personally, I don't think coop suits the Batman we've come to know in recent years. He's very much an independent hero, so I don't believe that coop is really necessary.

What strikes me even more is the fact that people are mad over the game's delay. If you were a developer, wouldn't you want your publisher to see only your best work? I think we need to cut Batman: Arkham Knight a little slack on both the exclusion of coop and its delay. Rocksteady will deliver us an amazing experience, as they always have.
