Far Cry 4 Director Has a Message for PC Pirates

November 19, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Silly pirates.

Far Cry 4 released just yesterday to mostly positive review. While the series' fourth iteration didn't quite blow our tops off in the way we were expecting, the title is still a pretty amazing feat in game development. Given the fact that Ubisoft has so many games in development, namely for its Assassin's Creed franchise, it's a wonder that they are able to create anything of quality in the time that they have left for other projects.

Piracy has become a pretty common issue in the video games industry. While most titles can still succeed under the weight of piracy, the real damage it has caused is hard to measure. Personally, I'd rather have people pay for their games so that developers and publishers can give back with amazing experiences in their next project. People don't realize that by pirating video games, they are also hampering their own future experiences.

There's also a small part of me that understands where pirates are coming from. Some people just can't afford a 60 dollar game disc. Furthermore, with the number of glitches and bugs that are coming out of newly-released titles like Assassin's Creed: Unity and Grand Theft Auto 5, it almost seems justifiable to pirate games. That said, don't get any ideas – it's still not right.

Ubisoft Montreal's Creative Director had a few words for pirates in a recent Twitter post:

PC players! If you're online complaining about the lack of FOV control … You pirated the game.

There have been a number of players complaining about the lack of Field of View control in game, but it appears that they've been caught red-handed. It seems really pathetic for those who pirated a game to complain about a missing feature.

Please don't pirate.
