After having our hearts lifted by the revival of Yuji Naka's Rodea the Sky Soldier and the news that the first print run of the Wii U version will include physical copies of the unreleased Wii original, here comes something to damper our spirits. Back when Rodea was still scheduled for Wii, XSEED Games had expressed interest in bringing it out West. That tune has since changed, as XSEED is not considering it at the moment.
A GoNintendo reader named Jerry recently emailed XSEED to discuss localization plans, and the disappointing response was:
We have no plans to pursue that title at this time.
The most obvious reason for such a statement is that XSEED doesn't have as much confidence in Wii U software's sales performance as it did for Wii games. Then again, that doesn't explain why the 3DS version wouldn't at last be considered. Whatever the reason, the short story is that there are no Western plans at the moment. Anything can happen, of course — I'm personally pulling for Nintendo itself to publish Rodea in Western territories.
Rodea the Sky Soldier will hit Wii U and 3DS in Japan in Spring 2015.
