Assassin’s Creed: Unity and its Bug-Ridden Release Has Caught Ubisoft’s Attention

November 14, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Apparently, ignorance is not bliss.

Assassin's Creed: Unity is a beautiful game equipped with pulse-pounding gameplay. Complemented by the solid historical settings of the title, you'd think that there would be no complaints, right?

Well, sorry to say, this isn't the case. Huge numbers of gamers have been lodging complaints with Ubisoft about the various bugs that are plaguing the Assassin's Creed: Unity at the moment. While we're sure Ubisoft will patch these up and fix them over the next few weeks, it doesn't change the fact that their Quality Assurance team obviously wasn't up to the task of preparing Unity for release.

Speaking to the BBC, Ubisoft said that they had a really hard time creating a faithful representation of Unity's post-launch environment.

"The nature of games themselves and the way they are being reviewed is changing, as evidenced by games like Assassin's Creed Unity, Destiny and The Crew – games that have significant online components," Ubisoft said.

"Having the online elements available and having populated worlds is essential to creating a representative and complete experience for reviewers.

"Achieving this prior to launch is incredibly complex, which is why some games are being reviewed much closer – or as was the case with Destiny, even after – the game launches.

"We are working to adapt our services and communications with consumers accordingly, both by changing the way we work with reviewers and by offering customers open betas or other early access to some games, all so that they have the information they need and want."

While none of this is a good excuse for Ubisoft's failings, it does show us that they aren't ignorant of the issue at hand. You should expect multiple updates to the game over the next few weeks.
