The Master Chief Collection, a remastered version of the original trilogy plus Halo 4, recently came out. With it came questions of how matchmaking would work across games. Apparently, The Master Chief Collection utilizes Halo 2's matchmaking formulas, and fans are pretty happy to hear this. There will be a number of changes coming to the playlists in The Master Chief Collection.

HALO CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
The official Halo eSports playlist, featuring the Halo 2: Anniversary Halo Championship Series rule set. 4v4.

Play a mix of Team Slayer and objective game types on re-mastered maps. 4v4.

Team Hardcore
A collection of tournament-approved game types from Halo 2 and Halo 3. The Battle Rifle is your primary weapon. 4v4.
