Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Dev has ‘Low Tolerance for Toxic Behavior’

November 5, 2014 by Stephen Daly

But Michael Condrey says CoD community isn’t ‘toxic or misogynistic.’

Sledgehammer Games' co-founder and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's lead programmer Michael Condrey has defended the series' community, saying he has a "low tolerance for toxic behavior".

"I certainly wouldn't characterize the community of fans I know and had the pleasure to engage with as toxic or misogynistic," Condrey told BBC Newsbeat. "The community as a whole is very healthy, engaged and thoughtful and probably like anything anywhere well outside of gaming."

His remarks were made in light of recent online harassment campaigns which have disproportionately targeted women but Condrey denied that there's large scale toxic behaviour among Call of Duty players saying "In the fringes of a lot of areas of society there are examples of people behaving poorly."

Condrey added: "Come to the game to have fun, come to be social, come to enjoy and build a community and have a positive energy. […] Toxic behaviors, abusive language, inappropriate emblems, I don't want that around. […] So for our community, Sledgehammer Games and Advanced Warfare we have pretty low tolerance for toxic behavior."

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
