Brian Provinciano's Retro City Rampage was a monumental undertaking for the man, sucking up a full decade of his life before its release in 2012. Players have since enjoyed the 8-bit Grand Theft Auto parody, filled as it is with copious amounts of '80s and '90s homages plus tons of self-referential humor. But even after all that hard work, Brian didn't stop, eventually unleashing an updated version called Retro City Rampage DX back in February for 3DS. It is this definitive version that will be coming to all previous platforms as a free update later this month.
As you can see, DX goes a long way in easing many of the frustrations of the original release by introducing different camera zoom levels, a better HUD, improved weapon and car management, new retro color schemes, the ability to plant waypoints on the map, and more. No matter which platform you own RCR on — Windows, Mac, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox 360, and even the original Wii — you'll be able to bring your game up to the 3DS version's elevated standards.
That's not all! The game will also be arriving on PS4 for $9.99 ($7.99 with PS Plus), and there will be cross-buy and cross-save across all three PlayStation platforms too. If Brian is still considering new platforms, who's to say we won't see RCR on Xbox One and Wii U sometime down the road?
