The dual Sonic Boom titles, one each for Wii U and 3DS, continue to be a bit of a mystery. Entirely Western-developed projects linked to a new CGI cartoon set to air on Cartoon Network beginning November 8, they mark yet another experimental departure from the (increasingly uncommon) traditional Sonic formula. Rise of Lyric, as the Wii U version is called, seems to play more like notable Western platformers like Jak and Daxter or Crash Bandicoot.
The above Rise of Lyric commercial also doubles as promotion for the show, infused as it is with the brand of humor that it hopes will find an audience. The jury is out on whether the show or the games will make their mark, but we won't have to wait much longer to find out.
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric arrives for Wii U on November 11. The 3DS game, Shattered Crystal, lands on the same day.
