Felicia Day Doxxed After Expressing Fear of Being Doxxed

October 23, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Supernatural actress has personal details revealed after speaking of #GamerGate fear.

Actress Felicia Day has had personal details revealed online minutes after making her first public comments on #GamerGate, the Guardian reports.

Day, who has appeared in TV shows such as Supernatural and Buffy as well as games including Dragon Age 2, largely remained silent on the issue, and recent attacks on women in the games industry, “aside from a few replies on Twitter that journalists have decided to use in their articles, siding me against the hashtag”.

The actress says she chose to refrain from commenting on the issue out of fear that her personal details would be 'doxxed', or revealed on the internet, if she commented on #GamerGate.

“I realised my silence on the issue was not motivated by some grand strategy, but out of fear that the issue has created about speaking out," she said in an update on her Tumblr page.

Day continued “I have tried to retweet a few of the articles I’ve seen dissecting the issue in support, but personally I am terrified to be doxxed for even typing the words ‘gamer gate’. I have had stalkers and restraining orders issued in the past, I have had people show up on my doorstep when my personal information was hard to get.”

Shortly after her remarks, a user by the name of 'gaimerg8' posted what they claimed were Day's home address and personal email. His comment, and the entire comment thread, have since been deleted.

Former NFL star Chris Kluwe recently lambasted #GamerGate and many have pointed to the fact that his details were not revealed online as evidence of the movement's misogynist nature.

Kluwe brought that point up on his Twitter account commenting “None of you fucking #gamergate tools tried to dox me, even after I tore you a new one. I’m not even a tough target. Instead, you go after a woman who wrote why your movement concerns her.”
