Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor DLC Package is Free

October 22, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

New DLC for Shadow of Mordor lets you play as The Black Hand of Sauron.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor has been one of the few games in recent years to buck the usual, sloppy trend associated with licensed game development. While other titles like Batman: Arkham Asylum have managed to lead the charge, there is still a huge majority of titles in this realm of development that are turned into bargain bin garbage. With Shadow of Mordor's performance among reviewers and sales charts, we doubt that the Lord of the Rings-based action game will be visiting the bargain bin anytime soon.

Today, the winds brought us news of upcoming downloadable content for the game, something sure to breathe new life into the experience that may be growing a bit stale for some of you. In this DLC, you will be able to take on the role of Sauron's Black Hand, who is most certainly one of the major players in the game's main storyline. While the specifics haven't been made clear yet, you shouldn't get caught up with them. Why, you ask? CVG indicates that the DLC will be coming to your system(s) free of charge. It's not too often that the words "free" and "DLC" go in the same sentence together, as most developers and publishers use the time after a game's release to bring in a few extra bucks.

Here's all the information regarding the content currently available:

  • Play as the Black Hand of Sauron
  • Epic Runes including:

    • One with Nature – Immunity to Poison attacks from Uruk Captains or Ghuls.
    • Ascendant – Double Focus Time for slow motion ranged combat.
    • Elven Grace – Increased defence which halves the damage of enemy strikes.

Given that the DLC is free, our expectations aren't super high for the upcoming content, which just means there is more room for us to be blown away. Gamers around the globe should be able to access the content by day's end.
