CD Projekt Red, Ubisoft Montreal’s Former Graphics Programmer Hired by Sony Santa Monica

October 20, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

It looks like Sony Santa Monica is stepping up their game.

Sony Santa Monica has been looking for a new Graphics Programmer for a few weeks now. After what we are sure has been a long and strenuous interview process, they have decided to bring on BartÅ‚omiej WroÅ„ski. The programmer has worked on a number of projects with two major teams in the games industry business: Ubisoft Montreal (Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed) and CD Projekt Red. (The Witcher) We’re not sure why he’s done so much team hopping recently, but there’s only two options: he’s either amazing at what he does or he is not good enough to hold the job down.

We are going to side with the notion that he’s really good at what he does, given the quality of game that Sony Santa Monica usually produces. Not only that, but there’s a list of his qualifications and abilities listed under his LinkedIn profile that would pique even the most experienced game developer’s interest.

  • Lighting techniques – indirect and global illumination, physically based shading and pipelines.
  • Physically based atmospheric effects – sky, fog and scattering-related phenomena.
  • Post-processing and screen space effects.
  • Complete rendering framework design and maintenance.
  • CPU, memory and GPU platform-specific optimizations and bugfixing.
  • Tools design aiming to help ensure technical quality of assets.
  • Direct work with artists and designers and coordinating optimization process.

While some of this might read as jargon to the uninitiated, we can tell you that there is most definitely a high pedigree of game development at work here. Wronski should prove himself to be a valuable asset to the team at Sony Santa Monica.
