Have you ever had the itch to start playing World of Warcraft again? I know as a once-devoted player that I have and apparently Blizzard Entertainment does, too. The developer-publisher will be offering players the chance to recover deleted characters from here on out in an attempt to reign in its once staggering player base. While World of Warcraft remains the undeniable kingpin in the world of MMORPGs, the game is still losing steam quite fast. This seems to be a good step forward in reclaiming some ground in the veritable turf war that is the MMORPG genre.
While the list of restrictions for recovering a deleted character is quite small, you should still take a peek before getting too excited. If you did not finish leveling your avatar up to 50, then there is only a certain grace period with which you can revive him.
Blizzard will also be offering original name reclamation. Like the level 50 rule, there will only be a short time in which you can recover your original name. We also assume that if someone else has made a character using your previous name, you are out of luck.
Here is a list of the restrictions for recovering your character:
- Characters under level 10 and Death Knights at level 55 are not eligible to be undeleted.
- Characters between level 10 and level 29 will no longer be recoverable after 90 days.
- Characters between level 30 and 49 will no longer be recoverable after 120 days.
- All other characters level 50 and above are eligible to be undeleted at any time.
- Please keep in mind you will only be able to use the undelete option once every 30 days.
This is the note informing players of how they can recover their name, in conjunction with their undeleted character:
"We’ll be holding deleted character names for a limited time, and the original creator can reclaim it for use on a new character during that time. If you create a new character with the same name as one of your deleted characters (let’s say Flugur), the new character must be renamed, transferred, or deleted to complete the restoration of the original Flugur."
