There is a ton of love for the Streets of Rage franchise even decades later after it launched into the marketplace. For fans, this was a beat ‘em up title you needed to have in your collection. Most would fondly remember playing these games through the Sega Genesis and while all three had a following, we never got anything else besides that. It took Sega plenty of years before they finally allowed the creation of Streets of Rage 4.
While Sega got out of the game console business a long time ago, they still have some solid IPs that were console sellers back in the day. One of those is Streets of Rage where players take the role of a character having to clean up the city from thugs as crime quickly swept over the area thanks to Mr. X. After taking down the crime syndicate, things were a bit peaceful but a few years later the city was again thrown into a chaotic mix when Mr. X’s children, the Y Twins took over.
This is where we get a new series of level designs, characters, and weapons to use through the campaign of Streets of Rage 4. Meanwhile, the game had plenty of adopters waiting to see if there would be anything else to come out for this iconic franchise, and fortunately, there were some additional plans. The development team had made note that they were releasing a DLC that added even more characters, weapons, and enemies.
The DLC for Streets of Rage 4 is called Mr. X Nightmare and you can now go through the expansion today. This is plenty of content to hopefully keep players not only loading the game back up once again to play through the campaign but also the extra wave-based survival mode as well. As mentioned, you can pick up the DLC right now but if you would like a bit more insight into the expansion then check out the official launch trailer for Mr. X Nightmare in the video embedded above.
