Xbox One Plug-and-Play PC Controller Coming in November

September 18, 2014 by Tony Ponce

It may not be a wired controller, but it will help avoid the hassle of having to manually install drivers.

Back in June, Microsoft released drivers that allow players to use the Xbox One controller on their Windows PCs. The company is now taking the extra step to sell a simple all-in-one solution for folks who may not even have an Xbox One. The Xbox One Controller + Cable for Windows is exactly what it sounds like — an Xbox One controller with an included USB charging cable that will operate with any Windows 7 or 8 machine. There's no need to fumble with driver installation either, as plugging in the controller will take care of all of that for you.

Be warned that this is not a wired solution. This is just the normal wireless Xbox One controller, rebranded to ease consumer confusion. Should you so desire, it can still be used on Xbox One consoles. Microsoft is also pricing it at $59.99, same as the normal controller. I had hoped there would be a wired option for people who want to save a few bucks — the wired Xbox 360 controller was a godsend for PC gaming.

The Xbox One Controller + Cable for Windows arrives this November.
