D4 Releasing For The Xbox One Today

September 18, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The console exclusive is an episodic adventure game, with motion controls and Swery’s off-kilter tone.

D4, AKA Dark Dreams Don’t Die, will be releasing exclusively on the Xbox One today, September 18, 2014.

Swery65’s latest work is an offbeat noir adventure, in the style of Telltale Games’ episodic adventure games, such as The Walking Dead, but without the cold logic and immediate emotional impact. The player is David Young, an eccentric detective with the ability to re-experience past moments by touching items in the world called mementos.

David is haunted by the unsolved murder of his wife, but rather than the expected straight and dark tone that would be expected, Swery has injected D4 with his trademark off-kilter humor. You will be doing strange things, like throwing a baseball towards somebody inside an airplane, and using a mannequin leg. Swery also states that he gave the game a dreamy atmosphere, and time travel elements, which he has yet to elaborate on.

The game is controllable via the Xbox One controller or the Kinect, and Microsoft states that motion controls truly shine. You make wide swipes to look around a room, and to examine an object, you literally reach out to grab it with your hand. For the scene where you try to stop your roommate from attacking you, you can deflect the plates she throws at you with your hands, and you can grab her by the shoulders the moment she tries climbing up on the kitchen table.

D4’s release comes a little out of the blue. Were you interested in this game? If you do not have an Xbox One yet, would you buy one to play it now? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
