NBA 2K15 Adds Face Scanning For Custom Characters For PlayStation 4 And Xbox One

September 18, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Using the PlayStation Eye or Kinect, players can get their likeness in the game to the same level as the scanning athletes get.

2K Sports has confirmed that NBA 2K15 will finally have face scanning for character customization, enabled for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The actual process can be done in your home and should not take more than a minute. You grab your PlayStation Eye Camera or Kinect, and then point the camera to your face. You first point it in front of your face, and then the left, and then the right.

While the camera is pointed towards you, the game actually maps out your face to create a composite as close to the face scanning used on athletes for video games and toys. The camera will actually take thousands of reference points to make sure it gets your likeness just right.

Of course, the process isn’t perfect, so you will want to do facial scanning in a well lit area. When the scanning is done, you will also still be able to sculpt some facial features, as well as modify facial hair, head, hair, and complexion.

You will apparently be able to save as many as 150 people in this way, more than enough to build your own MyTeam made of you and your friends.

2K Sports shared two trailers related to this. The first one is strictly for laughs, and stars James Harden. The other video demonstrates the process itself.

NBA 2K15 will be released on October 7 on Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. You can watch both trailers below.
