Mighty No. 9: Here’s How the Online Race Battle Mode Works

September 2, 2014 by Tony Ponce

Nothing brings friends closer than being jerks to one another!

In addition to the new gameplay footage from yesterday, comcept and Inti Creates have released yet another Mighty No. 9 video, this one covering Online Race Battles. This mode was the final stretch goal of the Kickstarter campaign, sitting comfortably at the $4 million mark, and will serve as a nice little bonus for players who have always wanted to play a Mega Man-style game with a friend.

As you can see above, two players drop into a level and try to reach the end with the most points. You could cooperate if you desire, but you are free to zoom ahead, off your opponent's screen. Thought you can't touch your opponent directly, you can cause indirect harm, such as when one of the Becks blows up a barrel that the other is standing on.

Mighty No. 9 is coming to Windows, Max, Linux, Wii U, 3DS, PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in 2015. And if you were a Kickstarter backer at the $80+ tier or attended Keiji Inafune's PAX panel this past weekend, don't forget to try out the Steam beta.
