Halo 5: Guardians Comic Explains How Master Chief’s Cracked Helmet

August 29, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Wondering how Master Chief’s helmet ended up with a crack in the CGI trailers? Here’s why.

A few days ago, we reported on the possibility that Halo 5: Guardians would see the return of the Didact, the main villain in the previously released Halo 4. As leader of the Forerunners, the Didact hates all of humanity and wants to see to their eradication.

In the preview of the new Halo comic book, which is set between the events of Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, we see the return of the Didact, who managed to acquire six Composer devices by which to carry out his deadly plans.

The latest issue of the comic, which has been released in full, shows how Black Team gets killed by the Didact. The Didact then gets ahold of Monitor 859 Static Carillon, and makes a deal with him.

The comic then continues where the preview left off, with the Master Chief and Blue Team discovering the six Composer devices, which the Didact has plans for.

After a brief struggle against a horde of Prometheans, the Blue Team make their way back to Installation 03 with the Monitor in tow. The Didact attacks them, causing Master Chief to stab him in the eye—and subsequently have his head grabbed by the Didact like a doll, causing his helmet to crack.

If you’re wondering why the Master Chief has a cracked helmet in the CGI trailers of Halo 5: Guardians, now you know.

The comic ends on that cliffhanger.

Halo 5: Guardians is set for release in 2015, exclusive to the Xbox One.
