Pokken Tournament: Roster Won’t Just Include Fighting-Type Pokemon

August 27, 2014 by Tony Ponce

Producer Katsuhiro Harada answers Twitter questions regarding the new Pokemon fighting game.

Rumors that had been been brewing for months were finally put to rest yesterday when Bandai Namco and The Pokemon Company revealed Pokken Tournament, a Pokemon fighting game developed by the Tekken team. Aside from a short video of Lucario and Machamp duking it out, the only details shared were that the game would arrive in 2015 and only in arcades at first.

Naturally, fans took to Twitter with a whole mess of questions, which Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada was happy to answer. One major worry has been that, since this is a fighting game, the playable lineup will consist entirely of Fighting-type Pokemon. Harada sheds light on that concern:

There were several other important questions asked on Harada's Twitter page, but unfortunately many are in Japanese. NeoGAF user dmcAxle saved the day by translating some the question-answer combos. Through him, we've learned that Tekken characters will not be making any guest appearances and that the battle system will be different compared to Tekken's high / mid / low guard mechanic.

Pokken Tournament will arrive in Japanese arcades next year. A home console port, which can't possibly come anywhere else save Wii U, is all but confirmed.
