Survival horror fans were thrown for a bit of a loop when Koei Tecmo revealed that the next main installment in the Fatal Frame franchise would be exlcusive to Wii U. Nothing more has been said since that April announcement — not even at E3 — but that all changes this Thursday when Koei will host a special live stream on Japanese video site Niconico.
According to ComputerAndVideoGames, the event will begin Thursday, July 17, at 12:30 AM Eastern. Though it was formerly quite difficult for people outside of Japan to obtain a Niconico account in order to view the site's content, the process has been made much simpler with the addition of English instructions. Sign up to Niconico in advance if you want to watch the stream firsthand.
This won't be the first Nintendo-exclusive title in the series. Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse came only to Wii, as did a remake of Fatal Frame II, although neither left Japan. A 3DS spin-off called Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir did, however, but that one was not well-received critically. Considering the Wii U's dry release schedule, it would be in Nintendo's best interest to get the new game out in the West.
