Pharrell Williams Explains How He Selected Music For NBA 2K15

July 15, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

NBA 2K15’s soundtrack will be curated by Pharrell.

Singer and producer Pharrell Williams, best known for his hit track “Happy”, has been named as the curator of NBA 2K15’s soundtrack, Williams announced in a press conference today.

Williams said at the press conference that he was “honored” to take over the NBA 2K15 soundtrack selection process, which was previously curated by Jay Z and LeBron James in previous installments of the yearly franchise title.

"I couldn't believe my name got tossed in the hat!" Williams said.

The track list for NBA 2K15 will not be fully revealed until later this summer, but Williams let it be known that System of a Down and Strafe would be included amongst artists featured in the soundtrack. A representative from 2K Games confirmed to the press that the upcoming title would feature the largest soundtrack to date for the franchise.

Williams says that taking input from girls and women helped him to narrow down his song selection.

"There are girls that play the game and there's a lot of girls that are around it … so I thought it'd be such an interesting twist to have the girls weigh in on the song list, because they listen to it just as much," he explained. "I tried to pick an alternative approach, because how do you follow up LeBron and Jay? I gotta take a different route. When we finished looking at the list, it felt right."

NBA 2K15 is set for an October 7 release on both current and new-gen platforms.
