Elite: Dangerous May Be Heading to PS4 and Xbox One Consoles

July 14, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Development of the game remains focused on the PC version for now, however.

There’s a good chance that Frontier’s Elite: Dangerous will appear on console platforms like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Frontier’s David Braben suggested that the company is planning to do more with console gaming than most people are expecting.

“I don’t want to do something that constitutes an announcement, but we would be stupid not to support other platforms, including console,” he said.

“We’ve done lots and lots of games over time. We’ve done first-party Sony games. We’ve done first party Microsoft games. On console. So yes, we’d be stupid not to think about it.”

Despite what possibilities the future may hold, Braben says that the team at Frontier is invested in developing the PC version of the game first and foremost, which will be followed by a Mac version and finally other platforms.

“We’re very focused on delivering a great PC game,” he said. “We will then do the game on Mac and during that time we will be looking at other platforms as well.”

Elite: Dangerous is currently in beta testing on the PC, and costs £50 to £100 to get into.
