Ubisoft’s New Games Are About ‘Removing Boundaries’, Taking Advantage of PS4/Xbox One

July 9, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot talks about the publisher’s new offerings.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says that Assassin’s Creed Unity will be taking full advantage of the architecture offered by the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Unlike many other games, including the recently released Watch Dogs, the upcoming Unity is set for release only on new-gen platforms and will not be getting developed for either the PS3 or the Xbox 360.

Given that the game is only coming out for new-gen systems, its developers did not need to compromise their vision to fit it into the last generation of hardware or deal with the limitations that come with it.

“It’s a game that takes full advantage of the new gen,” said Guillemot on the official blog post. “It’s really a good demonstration of what those machines can do. And people are amazed.

“They didn’t expect those machines to deliver that level of graphics and animation quality, the depth of the number of people that can move in the environment, and so on. It’s helping the brand to have a new beginning with totally different possibilities.”

Elsewhere, Ubisoft detailed how Assassin's Creed Unity would be a fresh start for the series' narrative.

The blog post goes on to talk about how Ubisoft’s new games are all about “removing boundaries” by allowing players to experience open world games in seamless new ways.
