WWE 2K15: Sting Latest Confirmed Addition To Roster

July 7, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The Stinger is bringing four decades of being a non-WWE superstar to the game.

Sting has just been confirmed to be joining the roster of WWE 2K15.

There goes the neighborhood. Real name Steve Borden, the professional wrestler known as Sting is best known for his time as one of the big stars of World Championship Wrestling, starting in 1987 and ending in 2001. The argument can be made that he is the biggest wrestlier superstar who never signed with the WWE, until now anyway.

Under WCW, he held the NWA World Heavyweight title twice, the WCW World Heavyweight title six times, and the WCW International Heavyweight Chamion twice.  Sting also lays claim to being a WCW Triple Crown Champion, having won their World Championship, US Heavyweight Championship, and World Tag Team Championship (with Lex Luger).

In storylines, Sting’s star started rising in the late 1980s. In the then-National Wrestling Alliance, as booked by Dusty Rhodes. His early feuds with Ric Flair, the Four Horsemen, and the Great Muta, would go on to become legendary feuds after World Championship Wrestling seceded from the association. Sting would go on to be molded as WCW’s franchise star in the 90s, with major feuds against the Dangerous Alliance and Big Van Vader. Although WCW would be populated with more stars in the turn of the 90s, with the entry of the nWo and others, Sting would adapt dramatically, eschewing his post-Mad Max gimmick for the more era appropriate Crow-like appearance.

Sting would go on to work for World Wrestling All-Stars and a decade under Total Non-Stop Action/Impact Wrestling, but his prime was definitely found in that ‘80s to early ‘90s era in WCW.

No doubt, hardcore wrestling fans have been making Sting in their WWE CAWs anyway, but with his official entry, WWE has a near monopoly on the sport’s biggest names of the past, with many a dream match now available to book with this and future WWE games moving forward. We can only hope 2K Games can do this momentuous occasion justice.

Who would you like to see confirmed next in the roster? Let us know in the comments below. WWE 2K15 is coming October 28 to PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One.
