Morally Ambiguous Point-and-Click Gods Will Be Watching Coming to Steam on July 24

July 3, 2014 by Tony Ponce

Deconstructeam’s minimalist thriller will force you to make tough decisions.

On July 24, Deconstructeam's Gods Will Be Watching will arrive on Steam for $9.99 as a standalone ($8.99 pre-order price), or bundled with digital copies of the soundtrack and artbook for $19.99 ($17.99 pre-order price). Gods Will Be Watching is a point-and-click adventure with a minimalist pixel art style reminiscent of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP or recent Kickstarter project The Deer God. However, the macabre tone couldn't be any further from style of those aforementioned games.

You play six different survival scenarios, from hostage situations to wilderness survival, and must make heavy decisions about whether to torture others, commit suicide, and so on for the sake of the greater good. It's an expanded version of a single-stage concept developed in 72 hours during the Ludum Dare 26 game jam, which is available to play for free here. Give that demo a shot if you want to get a taste of a more morally ambiguous experience that you are probably used to. The choices you make can be quite disturbing — in fact, something about the minimalist art direction makes the actions on screen feel even more uncomfortable. Long story short, it's not for the faint of heart.

Gods Will Be Watching launches July 24, playable on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
