Murdered: Soul Suspect Developer Closes HQ, Company Might Be Done

July 2, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Has Airtight Games disappeared in a puff of smoke? There seems to be credible reason to believe so.

Airtight Games’ Redmond HQ seem to have been closed, making it seem likely that the company’s days as a developer are done for.

The studio was formed in 2004 from the remnants of several other studios, including Will Vinton and FASA, but it didn’t release it first game, Dark Void, until 2010. They quietly made up for lost time with titles like Quantum Conundrum, directed by Portal’s Kim Swift, Pixld, Derpbike and Soulfjord, all released within the last four years. Their latest game, Murdered: Soul Suspect, just came out last June 3, to mixed reviews.

Geekwire seems to have actually been in the location, and verified a sign on the door that they are selling their office equipment to coincide with the closure of the company. They also claim to have been in the location itself, and found the studio’s awards set across the table. It’s not clear if they were able to talk to any of the studio developers or employees, and neither the company nor its employees have yet to verify its status.

This seems to simply be symptomatic of a challenging industry, but I would not personally consider the door on Airtight Games closed. It was not that long ago that we all thought Dontnod was done, only for them to clarify that this was in fact not the case. If it has closed, one would wonder if Square Enix has planned on support for Murdered: Soul Suspect. Stay tuned for the latest news on Murdered: Soul Suspect  and Airtight Games.
