Titanfall: Respawn Says Returning to Single Player Would be a Step Backwards

June 26, 2014 by Stephen Daly

But studio has been hiring a slate of former God of War developers lately.

Respawn developers seem to have ruled out the possibility of a single player campaign in future TItanfall games, saying it would be a "step backwards."

In an interview with CVG, studio founder Vince Zampella commented "I don't know. I think we want to hit whatever part of the brain it is that triggers that feeling of a single-player campaign.

"There's nothing wrong with a single-player experience. They should exist and they do exist and I would work on one. But doing one with this feels almost like taking a step backwards."

Game director Steve Fukuda echoed Zampella's remarks adding "To me it would almost be a step backwards. Doing straight up single-player just feels a little bit to me like going back to what you know, going back…"

Even so, Stig Asmussen, best known for developing the third person and, up to Ascension, single player only God of War series at Sony Santa Monica joined Respawn earlier this year, along with other former God of War staffers.

It's possible that Asmussen and his colleagues are working on future Titanfall experiences or another project at Respawn but whatever it is, it looks like it may be another online-only affair.

Titanfall was released on PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One earlier this year but any future sequel is widely expected to be released on PlayStation platforms as well.
