Rainbow Six: Patriots Cancelled for Being ‘Old-Gen’

Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, Ubisoft explained in more detail as to why they cancelled Rainbow Six: Patriots and went with Rainbow Six: Siege instead. The developer ultimately cited that the former could not offer a next-gen experience they wanted to deliver to players. 

Ubisoft technical artist Oliver Couture revealed that the change was largely due to the launch of the new consoles. 

“To be completely transparent, I worked on Patriots – on Rainbow Six for three-and-a-half years – and Patriots was old-gen. Xbox 360 and PS3. Next-gen consoles were just around the corner, and we were like, ‘OK, we want to also have a next-gen experience. What can we do for that?’ We were trying stuff out with destruction technology, and we realized destruction really changes the game. We tried to see how it could fit with old-gen, but it just didn’t work out. So for us it was just a better solution to clean the slate, reset, and make what’s best for the players," he told the website.

While we know that Rainbow Six: Siege is focused on multiplayer, Coulture reassured people that single-player won't be neglected. However, he could not give any further details on it as of the moment. 

The new game Rainbow Six: Siege was announced during this year's E3.
