PS4 Players Will be Able to Take Over Someone Else’s Game, Eventually

June 17, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Some PS4 features announced last February still haven’t been implemented but they will be, says Sony.

The PlayStation 4 has been on the market since November but some features, such as the ability to take over another player's game via PlayStation Network and being able to put their console into sleep mode while playing a game and quickly returning to it later, still haven't been implemented after they were announced in Febraury of last year.

However, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has told Kotaku that the company is still working to implement those concepts into the system:

"Our team has been working on it. There are some things that we announced in February of last year that were not planned for the launch timeframe."

As for when these features are planned for general release, Yoshida commented:

"I am asking the same question to my tech team every other week. Because every day I get reminded by lots of people: 'Where is this? Where is that?' It's a great reminder for me."

The ability to take over another player's game was intended to allow those who had finished a title to help other gamers who were stuck. Sony said at the time that the suspend and resume feature would place the console in a low power state and eliminate console boot-up time when players returned, allowing them to immediately resume where they had left off in the game once they pressed the power button.

Game streaming and renting via PlayStation Now, currently in beta in North America, will be the next major feature to come to PS4 when the service launches at the end of July but hopefully we'll get news on when to expect those other features before too long.

The PlayStation 4 topped NPD hardware sales for the fifth consecutive month in May.
