Sony Reveals PlayStation Vita Facial Recognition

July 1, 2011 by Ian Miles Cheong

Sony has shown off its PlayStation Vita facial recognition technology at a recent event in Japan.

Sony's attendance at the Game Tools & Middleware Forum 2011 in Tokyo was not without a few surprises. The company demonstrated its new face recognition technology being developed by them in the form of a tech demo. The technology is expected to work in the upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld console, allowing users to chat and game using avatars of their characters instead of their faces. Sony says that the technology will be available as a part of its SDK for developers to use.
