Far Cry 4: Ubisoft Talks Kyrat

May 16, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The Himalayas are a political hotbed, and a beautiful part of the world. Ubi chose an interesting place to bring Far Cry to next.

We have some more details on Far Cry 4, thanks to Ubiblog. We talks a bit about the setting, and the game's preorder bonus.

The scenario behind Far Cry 4, is it is set deep in the Himalayas. In particular, players are going to a fictitious new location called Kyrat, which is headed by a despotic, self appointed king.

In real life, the Himalayan mountains meet and cross over boundaries of several countries, including Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. The area is also home to several regions, including Tibet, Kashmir, and Ladakh, and several Indian states, including Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Don’t get intimidated with all those names. All you need to know is Ubisoft chose to set the next Far Cry in an ethnically and politicially diverse region, so who knows what we are going to see. What we know for sure is that the setting is a far cry from the lush jungles of Far Cry 3, and the presence of man-made and natural threats is even more real in this world.

Frankly, given their previous track record, we’re not quite sure Ubi will depict another non-Western region with the respect to the culture and its people that it deserves, but we can give them a pass until we learn more about the game – and they promise more details at E3.

We do know for sure the game is an immense production, headed by Ubisoft Montreal, and co-developed by Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Shanghai, and Ubisoft Kiev.

On the side, Ubisoft is already offering preorders, with a free upgrade to the Limited Edition. This version comes with Hurk’s Redemption missions, bringing back Far Cry 3’s resident psycho, with his Impaler in tow.

Far Cry 4 is coming November 18 to Windows, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
