Wolfenstein: The New Order is ‘Close to 20 Hours’ in Length

May 9, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

MachineGames is answering questions posed by fans about the studio’s upcoming game, Wolfenstein: The New Order.

MachineGames is currently conducting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit. Creative Director Jens Matthies, who worked on The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness, is answering questions posed by fans about the studio’s upcoming game, Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Matthies pegged the total length of Wolfenstein: The New Order at 20 hours. “If you collect everything and explore everywhere I think a single play through could end up close to 20 hours,” he wrote. “But there's also lots of incentive to make a second play through, especially to explore the alternate time line.”

He says the biggest challenge to building the game was the scope. “The game is huge and it was a monster to build.”

The Creative Director at MachineGames further revealed to readers that Wolfenstein: The New Order will run with “minimal visual disparity at 60fps/1080p on all platforms,” confirming that the game would look the same regardless of what system you play the game on, be it the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4.

As for what’s in store for MachineGames next, Jens says he’d like to work on a sequel to Wolfenstein. “I'd love to do a sequel. I think it would be a lot of fun to make an Enemy Territory style multiplayer game. But MachineGames will never make both at the same time. We find that the best possible results come from having the whole team focused on a singular experience for the duration of the project.”

The PC requirements for the game were revealed just a couple weeks ago. Wolfenstein: The New Order launches on May 23rd and is also coming to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Pre-ordering the game will grant you access to the next Doom's beta though PS3 gamers will need access to a PS4 while Xbox 360 players will have to use an Xbox One.
