Assassin’s Creed Creator Will ‘Probably’ Announce New Game Soon

May 7, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Desilets’ non-compete contract with Ubisoft will be expiring shortly.

Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Desilets has said that he is "working on" a project which will "probably" be revealed soon.

Desilets led development of Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 at Ubisoft before joining THQ. When the latter publisher folded, THQ Montreal was acquired by Ubisoft but the project Desiltes was working on, 1666, was shut down and Desiltes eventually left – initiating legal action for ownership rights to the 1666 IP.

He has been operating under a non-compete agreement with Ubisoft since leaving but that contract expires next week, internet sleuth Superannuation discovered. Asked if he would have something to show, Desilets replied:

@supererogatory Probably yes… at least i'm working on it.

It's unknown how the legal proceedings ended or what we'll see. It will also be interesting to learn whether Desiltes has found publisher backing or decided to become an indie developer.

Ubisoft meanwhile is pushing full steam ahead with annual Assassin's Creed releases; Unity, the latest installment, is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One while Assassin's Creed Comet is believed to be in development for PS3 and Xbox 360.
