Harmonix Announces Amplitude Reboot for PlayStation 4, PS3

May 5, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Harmonix is Kickstarting a successor to Amplitude.

Harmonix, the studio behind greats such as Rock Band, FreQuency, and a host of other titles, want to create a modern successor to their cult classic Amplitude. Should the game be funded, it will be released as a cross-buy title on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. But first, Harmonix needs your help to make that happen.

The developer is seeking $775,000 to create a successor to the PS2 music game, which is scheduled for launch in June 2015. The team, many of whom worked on the original Amplitude, still work at Harmonix and want to use the studio’s proprietary engine and the knowledge they learned from Rock Band’s beat-matching in developing the title.

“We're aiming to deliver an updated soundtrack, incredible visuals, and fine-tuned controls,” the developer says. Additionally, Amplitude will run at 60 frames per-second “to make all musical timing feel snappy.”

Far from being a casual title, the game is planned to be “Dark Souls” hard, but with music.

“We know that fans of the original will be expecting that same level of challenge in this new version, and we won’t disappoint. The game will still feature its hallmark difficulty as you progress.”

Like Amplitude for the PS2, most, if not all of the music will be original to the game. Any extra funds they receive from Kickstarter will go towards licensing tracks from popular artists.

You can head on over to Kickstarter to support them.
