Naruto Storm Revolution Introducing New Game Mechanics Guard Break And Counterattack

April 25, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The new battle system will hopefully bring this game in line with other fighting games.

Cyberconnect2 and Bandai Namco did not just add a lot of content to Naruto Storm Revolution. Today, we are looking at some new gameplay mechanics the game introduces. Guard Break and Counterattack will break up how you play the game, and will bring this game in line with more serious fighters.

Pressing up on the D-pad indicates the guard break. If if hits, your opponent will be knocked out, and open to a powerful attack. There is a limitation to how many times you will be able to used it. My guess is there will be a power meter for it.

To counterattack, you need to hit R2 and the Square button on the Playstation 3. This will also knock out your opponent, leaving them prone to attack and also holding their support. This move consumes chakra, and much like parries and counterattacks in other games, is timing based. The timing will presumably be strict to deter abuse, so you will need to build up your skills considerably for this Naruto game.

Licensed fighting games have always been hit or miss, but Cyberconnect2 seems intent on making Naruto Storm Revolution a serious fighter to appeal to hardcore fighting fans as much as Naruto fans. Naruto Storm Revolution is releasing September to Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
