Each Planet in Destiny is as Big as Halo: Reach, Says Bungie

April 14, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Each planet is as big as Halo: Reach in its entirety.

Bungie’s Christian Diefenbach recently gave an interview to a Brazilian gaming magazine UOL Jogos, in which he talked about his work on Halo, and his work on the studio’s upcoming title, Destiny.

Within the interview, Diefenbach revealed that Destiny is a much bigger game than its predecessors in the Halo franchise, detailing that any one of Destiny’s many scenarios—Earth, the Moon, Mars—are as big, if not bigger than the entirety of Halo: Reach.

Here’s the machine translation:

"In 'Halo', worked with a team of 130 people. Now there are over 500 people working on 'Destiny'.'s A much, much bigger game with a new graphics engine," explained Christian. Bigger? "The destinations [scenarios where goes the game] like Mars, Moon, Earth, each one is more or less the same size as the entire game 'Halo: Reach’.”

Given that the missions in Reach were pretty sizable, it’ll be interesting to see how well the planets in Destiny actually scale when the game is released.

The rest of the interview just goes over what we already know about the game, so I’ll skip reporting any more of it.

Activision is set to publish Destiny on September 9, 2014 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4.
