Andrew House, the head of Sony’s PlayStation division, is elated by the sales of the PlayStation 4. The next-generation console has been in high demand since its November launch, but the company has struggled to maintain a steady supply to satiate the hungry consumers. Unfortunately for those still looking to buy a PS4 and join the conversation, House has confirmed that stock will continue to be low until summer hits.
“We’re struggling to keep up with demand,” House told The Wall Street Journal, referencing the U.S. and Europe as the regions with highest demand. “Conservatively, as we get into the early summer months, we’ll be closer to a full supply situation.”
Hard sales data has been difficult to come by, but we know that Microsoft sold three million Xbox One units in 2013. Sony, on the other hand, reached six million PS4s at the start of this month.
We’ll likely hear more on the two competitors’ current status in the race, as well as news on supply, when quarterly financials are released.
