Watch Dogs Releasing May 27 On All Platforms Except Wii U

March 6, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Ubisoft apparently needs a few months more on a game that was supposed to be out before the last holiday season

The latest Watchdogs trailer has leaked, and it is crazy filled with details. Before that, though, it has outed the game’s release date of May 27. Ubisoft has confirmed that release date for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4. The game has been delayed for the Wii U.

So the protagonist, Aiden Pearce, is happy with his lot as a hacker, until he unwittingly finds evidence of some terrible conspiracy. The perpetrators go after him and kill a loved one, and he decides to strike back. With the help of some well-connected hacker friends, he is equipped with a phone that turns the city into a weapon.

Unfortunately, the cops are on the take and some high level corporate espionage is afoot. We already know the conspiracy involves smuggling women, and we see some faces (without the names) of the main players, both with and against Aiden. The trailer ends with Aiden revealing his determination to see things through.

Ubisoft has let out feelers that they will be making a major announcement in a few hours, and this release date is probably it. We’ll update when we get more information, but as it is, it still seems that Ubi is taking huge risks delaying release that much further.

Regarding the lack of a Wii U release date, it could be attributed to several reasons, foremost being, Mario Kart 8 is coming out in the same week. There has also been worries that Ubi will not release the game to Wii U at all given delays confirming information, but at least, right here, Ubi is confirming the game is still coming to the console.

However, going back to Ubi, are they contending with development issues? Or are they going overkill polishing and adding extras? We hope they can provide a sensible explanation later, otherwise, they should consider bringing that date up sooner lest any sense of momentum for it is completely gone.
