We have a rumor suggesting that a Dishonored 2 may be announced in E3 later this year.
A Twitter user has leaked an image, apparently from a presentation revealing the game’s existence. Aside from Bethesda and Arkane logos and a herald, at the bottom of the leaked slide is the hashtag #DarknessofTyvia.
The 1st Dishonored came out 2012 for Windows, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. It is a game with a lineage, with many developers coming from games like Deus Ex and Half-Life 2. Arkane itself was known for working on Call of Duty, Bioshock 2, and its debut game, Arx Fatalis.
The game was a critical and commercial success, coming at the later years of 7th generation consoles, with multiple GOTY awards from the VGAs, GDC Awards, Golden Joystick Awards, etc. Several awards and nominations were also given for game design and story.
If you had to compare, more of the acclaim was based on gameplay over story elements. Dishonored emphasizes stealth, and using environmental elements, as well as your own tools and equipment, over brute force. The game also featured RPG elements, and much like Deus Ex, was designed in such a way that it could be finished without killing anyone.
It wasn’t long after its initial success that publisher Bethesda revealed plans to make Dishonored into a full fledged franchise. Given the timing of this statement, it seemed likely that the game was being made around the time the 8th generation consoles were to be launched.
Considering we hadn’t heard about the game along with the PS4 or Xbox One, it may still be a 7th generation project, but if the rumor is true, we need only wait a few months more to find out for sure.
